I was bored on Saturday and didn't have a lot to do so I decided to set up a baby registry online at Target. I know it's still really early but I figured I'd slowly add things to it here and there. While I was attempting to add items to my registry I realized I had absolutely no clue what I was doing and the only thing I felt confident about adding was a basket of Aveeno products. About an hour later I logged out with a major headache. I'm aware of the very basics that I need but for the most part, I'm clueless. Everyone has been really helpful so far when I've had baby questions so I thought I'd occasionally blog about items I'm questioning and see if anyone out there wants to give me advice or offer their input. Please help me out! Any and all opinions are appreciated!!
1.) This isn't really anything I need to worry about for a while but since I have plenty of time now I would like to get it figured out. I really want to make my own baby food for Campbell. I know, it's cute that I think I'm actually going to do that, I get it. I really, really want to give it a shot though. I've been doing research online to try to figure out which baby food maker is best and I haven't really come across anything. The one that stands out the most to me is this one from Williams Sonoma.
Has anyone out there ever used it or any other baby food maker? If so what are your reviews? I have a regular food processor but I've heard it doesn't puree the food well enough. If anyone has some insight on this I'd love to hear from you!
2.) I somehow stumbled upon this Bamboo Mod'Swad swaddle from Woombie and I think it's so cool. I love that it zips up and the little tie at the bottom is so cute to me. Has anyone ever used it?
3.) Obviously baby monitors are really important. I found one at Target that I like but I'm basing it solely off of looks which probably isn't the most practical way to go. What baby monitor do you/did you use? Any tips on how to pick one out?
4.) Is it honestly necessary for me to get a pack and play? They're so big and take up so much space and the anti-clutter girl in me does not want one of those in my house. I know people like to have them for traveling but I feel like the only traveling we'll do when he's really little is to my parents house in Little Rock and I'm pretty sure my Mom will have her own crib/baby bed so I won't always have to bring my own. Let's discuss this.
5.) I am head over heels in love with this bassinet from Restoration Hardware. My husband keeps trying to tell me that this is not a practical purchase. Silly Scott---of course it is!! Anyone out there want to help me win this argument?
Obviously I know nothing about having a kid, but I have heard of people using the magic bullet to mix baby food (or just turn what the adults are eating into baby food). Added bonus: it's perfect for individual margaritas for mom! Not sure what the price difference is, but I would assume it's cheaper than a fancy baby food maker from Williams Sonoma...
ReplyDeleteOkay thanks! I haven't even thought about using a magic bullet before.
DeleteI love this. We need to get together soon for dinner. In the short, baby bullet takes up less space, I have used the ninja too. Pack n' play is probably not a MUST have, plus if you need really need one you can borrow one. And the bassinet...well I am with Scott. I used a Rock n' Play and I loved it. It was angled and helped baby Mason when he spit up a lot early on. Plus the Rock n' play was light weight and easy to fold and put away.
ReplyDeleteI know the rock and play is more practical but that bassinet is so sweet! It's definitely more of a want than I need! Did/Do you make baby food for Mason? If so, how'd it go? Yes, we do need to get together again soon to go over baby "stuff!"
Delete1. I use a normal food processor and it works just fine. I had no problems at all...plus I'm cheap. AND I didn't use it for long bc I just fed them what I cooked pretty early on.
ReplyDelete2. Some babies like to be swaddled, some don't....so I wouldn't buy a lot of swaddlers until you know if he likes it.
3. Pack and play is nice for travel... I still throw B in one. But like someone else said, you could always borrow.
4. Bassinet is your preference... I'm mean and throw them in their own bed pretty quickly bc I like my sleep and don't wanna share a room with a loud baby.
Ha! I like it. How early did you put them in their crib? Did you take out the bumpers? Good to know that your normal food processor worked for baby food.
DeleteI put B in hers after 2 weeks and S after 3....left the bumpers in! They both liked snuggling up to them as they got older and it keeps their arms and legs in!! ...and pacifiers!
ReplyDeleteIs your house 2 story? If so, then I would suggest the bassinet OR the pack and play for that reason. I loved having a bassinet for the first few weeks by my bed, but after that put them in the crib asap... the sooner they get used to it the easier you life will be.
ReplyDeleteAbout the monitor-- my be advice would be to get one with 2 parent units... one to keep in your room and one to carry around. I didn't have one with a camera, but it could be useful. I was always poking my head in the room just to make sure! :)
Yes it's two story so the baby will definitely be sleeping in our room for at least a month. We've got to get something comfy (and cute) for him to sleep in!
DeleteI haven't ever thought about needing two parents units for a monitor before but that makes so much sense. Thanks a lot Tess!!! Very helpful! :)
