Toddler Boy Clothes | Pants and Shoes

I get asked a lot of questions about my boys clothes. I wrote a post HERE about their wardrobe and where I shop for them. I still shop at the same places but today I wanted to focus on pants and shoes because I know those two things can be a struggle to find. Now that it's fall it's time for jeans. I feel like every mom has the same complaint about pants/jeans. They're too big in the waist and too short in the length. My boys are both average on the weight and height charts but pants are hard. Fear not, I've found some good ones and they actually are long enough. Let's get started.

1.) Boden Rib Waist Pants. Campbell and Bennett both have these pants in green this year and I actually had to size down for the both of them and the length still works perfect. Campbell had these in plaid last year and they were my favorite pants of his. Highly recommend and the rib waist looks very comfortable.
2.) Boden Lined Canvas Pull-on's. I got these for Campbell this year and I absolutely love them. The reviews warned they were for skinny boys so I thought to myself "perfect!" These pants great. Highly recommend.
3.) Zara Basic Chinos. I have found Zara pants in general to be the best fit for both of my boys. Their leggings, trousers, jeans and chinos all fit my boys perfectly. They are true to size and perfect in the waist and long enough in length.
4.) Zara Skinny Colored Jeans. These jeans are super long and fit Campbell in the waist just right. It does have an adjustable waist and I did tighten it but it didn't bunch and look weird like some of the adjustable pants do. I have these in several different colors for Campbell. They are great if you have a really tall, skinny boy. I feel like Campbell could wear these into next fall honestly.
5.) Gap Pull-on Canvas Joggers. I love these joggers. I got them for Campbell and Bennett. I did size down because Gap runs so big in the waist. However, it didn't affect the length for us. I don't think they'll take us into spring because the length is just right, right now. I loved them though so decided to get them even if they won't last as long (possibly) as some of our other pants.
6.) Baby Gap My First Skinny Jeans. These were Campbell's and now they're Bennett's! Gotta love hand-me-downs. These are the best jean that Gap has for a small waist and long length. They fit Bennett just right.

Now let's talk shoes! Shoes are hard, right? I am super particular about the boys shoes. Apparently a lot of y'all are as well. These are what I've gotten for the boys to wear this fall.
1.) Native Kids Chukka Boot. Full disclosure: I've purchased these online but haven't received them yet so I can't get a review but from the photos I like. We love Natives so I'm crossing my fingers these will work because we need an every day, casual navy shoe.
2.) Steve Madden T-Chuka Boot. These are Campbell's "church shoes." I think they are really sharp. They zip on the side which is super nice and Campbell says they're easy to bounce in. So there's that.
3.) Ugg Canoe Suede Sneakers. Obsessed with these shoes y'all!! They have a hook and loop closure so the laces are "fake." I predict these will be Campbell's most worn shoe this fall/winter.
1.) Freshly Picked Oxfords. Freshly Picked released these oxfords a few months ago and they. are. precious. The color is beautiful and I'm in love.
2.) Elephantito Bootie. These shoes are so cute. Bennett hasn't worn them yet since it just got cold 5 minutes ago but I think he'll get a lot of use out of them this winter.
3.) Freshly Picked Moccs. Blue Spruce is my favorite winter color. Campbell actually has these in their Next Steps, the hard sole mocc. I would have linked them but they are SO hard to find these days but I do love them so if any of you come across them, get them! Blue Spruce is a beautiful color that goes with everything.

I've recently been telling Scott that I have really been wanting and needing to do something fun. He asked me what I meant and I told him I wasn't sure? Maybe a date night or a girls night. I never, ever do anything like that and after a while you just need it, you know? Fast forward to this past weekend. I did some Halloween mini photo sessions for some kids in my neighborhood. It's the first time I've ever taken photos without Scott there with me. I take photos of my own kids all the time but I've always been nervous to do it for other people for some reason. I left Scott to hang with the boys, grabbed a bunch of pumpkins and got all set up to take some cute Halloween pics.
I didn't even think taking photos would fulfill that need for something fun for me, but it did. It was a nice escape from my every day to do something different and something that I really enjoy. I know I take a lot of photos of my own children, and they are my favorite people to take photos of, but it's different when you're taking photos for others. I had so much fun doing it that it makes me want to do it more often! I've always said that photography is my favorite hobby. It has brought me a lot of joy over the years. This weekend, I learned that it can also be a stress reliever. It was nice. And kids in their Halloween costumes are just adorable. So there's that as well.

Happy Friday everyone! I am ready for my weekend. It's going to be a fun and busy one.
Last Friday we went to First Friday on the Bentonville square. First Friday happens on the first Friday of each month. It's basically a community block party with live music, food trucks, and family activities. Campbell rode a pony, scored a ton of free candy (the land of Walmart suppliers has it's benefits in more ways than one) and watched some guys do really cool bike tricks. We love going to First Fridays + our square in general. I know I've said it before but I LOVE my town and never want to leave here.
This week went by quickly even though Bennett cried for most of it. We had two days where it was COLD. Our meteorologist said they reminded her of a typical December day. It was such a nice change but didn't last long because we're back in the high 70's now and it's going to stay for another week. After that it looks like it really is going to turn into fall--and stay that way. I'm ready. I love the way the heater feels in my house. And the smell when it kicks on. Don't worry, by February I will be begging for warmer temps but for now I'm excited for scarves, falling leaves, fires and cute little boy fall clothes. Speaking of, I got to put my boys in their fall clothes for two days this week and even Scott kept talking about how cute they looked. Fall clothes + little kids = adorable.
I'm planning to do a post on where I shop for the boys fall clothes including where I find Campbell's pants and jeans that are long in the legs and skinny in the waist. I think this is the most common complaint for moms when they're trying to find pants for their littles. It seems like all the pants out there are too short in length and too big in the waist. But long leg, skinny waist pants do exist and I'll tell you where to find them!! I'll also tell you where to find cute boy shoes--the hardest part about shopping for a boys wardrobe.
See you all back here next week! Enjoy your weekend!!

Happy Friday Eve y'all! What a week. Actually, the past few weeks have been rough here in the Johnson house. Bennett, my perfect baby, has been a challenge x 10. So. Much. Crying. The problem is an easy one to diagnose--he's tired. Bennett desperately still needs two, two hour naps. Most days, however, he doesn't get them. His MDO class does one nap from 12:15-2:00 so he is Grumpy McGrumperson starting around 3:30 until bedtime. On Wednesdays I do my bible study from 9:30-11:30 which cuts into that morning nap too. So three days a week he is so fussy. I know three out of seven doesn't sound bad but trust me, it is. Scott and I both are about to lose our minds. Plus, my Wonder Weeks chart tell me Bennett is in a leap. A long one. And I one million percent believe in the Wonder Weeks chart. It's his last leap and I remember reading when Campbell was a baby and going through Wonder Weeks that the last one is a doozy. We're only supposed to have one more week left of it so lets all just take a moment to get on our knees and pray that the end of the leap will fix a lot of the crying. Because there's so much crying. More crying in the last few weeks than in his whole entire 17 months of life. Jesus take the wheel. Take it from my hands. Cause I can't do this on my own.
I know it's hard to look at that innocent little face and believe me but I'm telling the truth.
In other Bennett news, this little guy is 100% walking now. He took his first steps on his 16 month birthday and he chose walking as his preferred transportation of choice a little more each week. Now I never see him crawl anymore and it's a little bit sad. He is also super into ketchup and dipping everything in is so he may as well go to kindergarten tomorrow since he's apparently a big boy now.
The boys are in bed now and I'm working on some blog stuff then taking a bath and watching Scandal. I'm excited to share some cool stuff here next week with you guys! Going to work hard on a few things over the weekend and hopefully have them all set and ready to go early next week. I have a busy weekend! A lot of things for my blog and I'm also taking some Halloween photos for a bunch of cute families in my neighborhood. I'm excited to take the pics. I love kids in Halloween costumes!! See you guys back here tomorrow!!

Grey + Pink Velvet

Brr!! It is cold and feels like the perfect fall day today! Since it's all chilly and fall-like outside, I thought I'd take the opportunity to share this fall look that will be an easy, go-to for me during these cooler months.
I love a simple top that I can just throw on with jeans and go. I was trying some clothes on and grabbed this top to wear while trying on skirts and pants but once I put it on, I decided I really liked it and needed to have it! It's just a basic, perfect weight knit but it will go with anything and probably live in my closet for many years. I love the side slits and the high low hem.
I scored these shoes at Target and I love!! I have been noticing several different versions of crushed, pink velvet shoes this season. I love the look but not enough to spend $100+ since they will possibly feel dated next fall. These are less than $25 and beautiful! They look like a super good quality and the pretty buckle is the perfect touch.
This leopard tote is my favorite new item of the season. I have had my eye on it for months and months and scored it during the Nordstrom sale for a great price. It is all sold out but they still have the smaller version available.

Fall Porch Decor

Late last week I went to my favorite local nursery to pick up some pumpkins and mums to decorate my front porch with. I searched on Pinterest (like I always do) for fall porch décor to get ideas and decided that this year, I wanted to go with an all orange color pallet. I also liked the idea of the classic, simple pumpkins instead of the different, funky ones I usually do. I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg but I did want my porch to be fun and fall-like. I picked out my favorite pumpkins and mums and came home with a back seat full of fall goodness.
My door hanger is from an etsy shop and I look forward to hanging it up every October! After I left the nursery, I drove to my favorite antique shop to find a simple little crate to use for some height. I grabbed my cute little Jack-O-Lantern out of the attic that I got at Homegoods years ago and suddenly I had a cute, simple and festive fall porch! I love the way everything pulled together and that I didn't spend much to achieve the look I wanted. Pumpkins and mums add up, right? Check out my Fall Décor Pinterest Board HERE to browse some of my favorite fall porches and autumn touches to bring into your home!

House Selections

Happy Friday Eve! I am so glad the weekend is almost here. It has been a crazy week and I am need of some rest and a little quality time with my family.
Scott and I are almost done picking everything out for our home. We chose our granite slabs today for our kitchen and master bathroom. We already picked our granite but they have 6 slabs and we picked the 4 that we liked the most. After granite we headed to the tile store to finish that up. It's so overwhelming and I'm honestly ready to be done with it. I basically just let Scott do it all since he's the professional and knows what he's doing and what looks best. But still. It hurts my brain. We still have lighting and cabinet hardware but otherwise we're done as far as picking things out. One of the meetings I am really looking forward to is with the guy who's going to do my closet. I've been pinning closet inspirations on Pinterest like crazy to get ideas. If you've read here for long you know how much I love organization so my closet is something I am very much looking forward to designing!! We will have his and hers closets and I've told Scott since we'll also have his and hers laundry baskets, he should probably just starting doing his own laundry when we move. He isn't super into that idea but I, personally, think it's fantastic. :)
It's late and I still haven't tuned in to Scandal so I'm just going to leave it at that and catch you all back here tomorrow!

Hot Spinach Dip

I love spinach dip and I wanted to share my favorite spinach dip recipe with you guys today. The recipe came from a friend but the more I made it, the more I put my own little twist on it until I felt like it was perfect! Unlike my other go-to spinach dip recipe which is a cold dip, this one is hot. Warm with a hint of a kick!! It's my fav and an easy one to whip together for a party, have as a side dish, or as a yummy snack to nibble on throughout the week.
What you need:
-8oz cream cheese
-8oz bag of shredded pepper jack cheese
-1 cup of parmesan cheese
-1 pkg of frozen chopped spinach thawed
-2 cans of rotel (I do one hot and one regular)

Add all ingredients together in a sauce pan on your stove top. Mix on medium low until melted together. Serve warm with chips. It's so delicious! I know you'll love it.

Fall Spirit

Hello October! Don't you just love October? It's one of my favorite months of the year. I'm itching to take the boys to pick out pumpkins and mums so we can decorate our front porch and make it look festive! I've done a tiny bit of fall décor around my house but I plan to take the boys tomorrow to pick out some fun fall items to get us in the spirit.
Over the weekend Scott and I started watching The Crown. It is SO good and I find myself wanting to finish my tasks as quickly as possible so I can watch an episode every night. I'm only a few episodes in but I highly recommend if you're wanting a new show to watch!!
On Friday, Ivy and Madison had their first teeth cleaning at the vet. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I was mostly worried about a freak accident while they were under anesthesia or something. I dropped them off Friday morning and shortly after lunch they called to let me know the girls did well and were going to be ready to be picked up at 4:00. I was anxious to get them home to snuggle. Madison was acting almost normal and Ivy was pitiful which is so typical. I think Ivy has a low pain tolerance. Madison had to have two teeth extracted and Ivy actually had a broken tooth so they went ahead and pulled it. They rested a lot on Friday and today is the first day that they are acting like their normal selves. They still won't eat much so that's a little worrisome but I think it's a side effect of their antibiotic so I'm just waiting that out. I'm glad we got that over with and that the girls did good! They got lots of extra snuggles over the weekend.
Looking forward to another fun, busy week. It seems like I hardly have time to slow down these days but I like for it to be that way. Most of the time anyway. It makes my days go fast and I usually crash when my head hits the pillow. See you all back here tomorrow!

Matilda Jane

Today I'm sharing a look from a brand I've never blogged about before -- Matilda Jane! I'm sure most of you have heard about Matilda Jane (especially if you have daughters) but for those of you who haven't, Matilda Jane is a clothing line for girls, tweens and adults. Their style is very whimisical with a lot of textures, patterns and colors.
This top I'm wearing is the 'character top' and I absolutely love it. It's incredibly soft with a mesh overlay that's free-flowing and dreamy. This is the most gorgeous shade of pink and I know the color would look beautiful on anyone. When you find a top that you know you will keep and love for years and years, you know it's a good one. This is that top for me.
The photos don't do the texture and fabric of this top justice. I felt very ballerina-esque while wearing it and even my husband commented on how pretty the top was. They released this top in a different color a few years ago and it was an instant favorite. Matilda Jane fans requested them to bring it back in a different shade so this fall, they finally did. And everyone is raving over it!!

Fall Snack Mix

Something I did last fall for Campbell was make him, what he called, "Fall Snack" and he loved it. I was reminded of it a few days ago and I need to go to the grocery store to grab some items to make Campbell's beloved "Fall Snack." It's simply a mix of different sweet and salty goodies. I mixed it all up and kept it in a huge ziplock bag so that it would stay fresh and we could eat on it for a long time. We all enjoyed it and it was a nice change to the typical snacks we have laying around the house. I'm not saying this is a healthy snack option but it's fall and fall is fun so lets live a little and have some fall snack! It's great to have laying around your house or a fun and festive treat to take to a fall party! Here's some ideas on what you can put in your fall snack mix!
-Yogurt Melts
-Chex Cereal (I like the honey flavor)
-Honeycomb Cereal
-Candy Corn Pumpkins
-Chex Mix
-Candy Corn
-Reeces Pieces
-Teddy Grahams
-Crunch N Munch
-Chex Muddy Buddy
-Chocolate Chips

Last year I mixed goldfish, chex honey cereal, reeces pieces, pretzels, yogurt melts and teddy grahams together and it was a hit! I may try some different combos this year but I know that whatever I choose, it will be devoured and requested so often it will become annoying. Ha! Are there any good fall snack mix ingredients I'm not thinking of? If so, leave it in the comments!

Three and 1/2

Campbell is 3.5 today! I know it may seem silly as they get older to recognize half birthdays but since this is my journal, I thought I'd take the opportunity to do a little post on Campbell and what he's like at 3.5 years old.

Weight: 30 lbs. He hasn't gained any weight at all in the last 6 months. Just getting taller!

Sleep: Campbell sleeps from 7:30-7:00. He doesn't take a nap anymore and hasn't since right around his birthday. I actually prefer the no nap and having him go to bed early instead. He handles no nap great. I always knew he'd drop his nap really early. When he was a baby he always dropped naps earlier than what was typical of most babies.
Eat: Campbell loves food cut into shapes so we have a lot of cookie cutters around here. His favorite fruit is cantaloupe, his favorite snack is still applesauce and he continues to request smoothies for breakfast every morning. Campbell is a pretty good eater. Not great but not horrible.

Clothes: I am currently trying to get Campbell's fall wardrobe together and I always have so much fun doing it. Most of his clothes are from Boden these days and he wears a 3/4 in their shirts and a 2/3 in their sweatshirts, coats and pants. He wears a size 9 shoe.
Likes: TV (he's really starting to get into all the Nick Jr shows but he still loves Disney too), playing with Bennett and loving on the girls, reading books, going to school. Campbell is getting creative with his imagination play. His favorite game is to play "Sheriff Callie" and he makes Scott be Sparky (the horse) haha! He also loves to pretend to have birthday parties. He loves to help me cook, still loves doggies, warm blankets from the dryer, taking his vitamins, trains and ice cream.

Dislikes: Quiet time, when Bennett messes up a toy or something he's working on (understandable!), taking the time to go to the bathroom (he holds it until he's dancing and about to bust).

All About Campbell: Campbell really is such a great little toddler. For the longest time I kept waiting on the ball to drop but I've decided he's just going to go easy on us. Not saying it will always be that way....but for now it is. He is so sweet, kind and respectful. He aims to please and be obedient. Campbell will talk your ear off and says hi to every single person we pass, wherever we are. If they say "hi, how are you?" to him, they just better be prepared for a full blown conversation. Campbell is such a sweet big brother to Bennett and still calls him "Boo." Campbell loves to have a good time and candy is his love language. He is my little buddy and he makes me smile daily due to the cute things he says or does. Sometimes he needs some attention but sometimes he's just in the playroom by himself doing his thing. I love this kid so much and I'm so very proud of my little boy.
