Potty Training Update

I get a lot of questions about potty training so I thought I'd give you guys a little bit of an update on how all of that has gone with Campbell.
We potty trained Campbell at the end of July so he was 28 months old (I don't like referring in months when they're well into toddlerhood but I felt it necessary for this situation, ha!). The reason I was wanting to do it is because changing Campbell's diaper was like wrestling a freaking alligator every time and I. was. over. it. I wasn't sure how it would go because he wasn't showing a lot of the signs that toddlers apparently show when they're ready. He never told me when he was wet or dirty, he never seemed bothered by a wet or dirty diaper, he never showed interesting in the potty, he never told me he needed to potty....nothing. The thing that made me feel like he was capable was that he was able to hold his bladder for a really long time. I was only changing his diapers 3-4 times a day. I figured I may as well give it a try and since he had a 6 week long break between the summer and fall sessions of Mothers Day Out, I thought that would be the best time to try it.
I wrote all about how I went about potty training Campbell in this post HERE.
After we did the 3 day naked method, Campbell was potty trained. He had accidents a handful of times that first month but since then it's been great. That method works!!
Campbell sleeps in underwear at night and he sleeps 11 hours so he's able to hold it for a really long time, obviously. A lot of people have asked me how I did that. I didn't. I always say that I think they either can or can't. Campbell was waking up with dry diapers a long, long time before I potty trained him. I kept him in diapers for about 2 months after potty training just to be on the safe side but once our last package of nighttime diapers ran out, I never bought more. I make sure he goes potty right before bed and around 6:30 I don't offer him anymore liquids.
After going through it once and knowing what I now know, I definitely won't wait as long to potty train Bennett. I believe in that 3 day naked method and I know Campbell would have been capable of potty training months before he did. I was so caught up on him not coming to tell me that he needed to potty, not seeming bothered by a dirty or wet diaper, not showing interest, etc. I thought that because he wasn't doing any of those things that he wasn't ready. I was wrong! That totally doesn't matter. These little kiddos adapt and learn so quickly. And if you try and it doesn't work out then just wait a little bit and try again.
The 3 day naked method reminded me of sleeping training in a way. Just be consistent and do exactly what they tell you to do and it will work.....in three days just like they said. Or in our case, two! I do fully believe that being naked is the key to it all. I kept Campbell naked that entire first day and he did awesome. Since he did so great, I put him in underwear the second day and he had tons of accidents. Lesson learned, must stay naked if you want it to work quickly!!
