The Gobers

My parents best friends, Alan and Dewana Gober, were in a horrible car wreck earlier this evening. We still don't know a lot other than Dewana is A-Ok with the exception of horrible back pain. Alan is much worse off. He was thrown from the car and apparently trapped under it. He has a punctured lung, broken shoulder and a huge gash across his forehead. He's being transported to either Little Rock or Pine Bluff. We're still not sure. I keep waiting on phone updates from Mom. I will post updates as I hear them. Please keep them in your prayers. I'm amazed by God's grace that they will be okay. Praise Him! It's truly a miracle.

UPDATE: Alan is at UAMS. A lot more injuries than originally thought. Mom talked to Dewana. Mom and Dad are headed to UAMS right now.

UPDATE: Mom and Dad stayed at UAMS until around 2 last night. They were able to speak to Alan. He has a broken hip, broken ribs, torn spleen and punctured lung. He was conscience while he was being thrown from the car. He was thrown from the window. Once the car stopped rolling, the axel was on Alan's head. The road to recovery will be long. He is incredibly lucky.

UPDATE: Alan is in surgery now for his hip. Mom & Dad are at the hospital waiting...

The Lonely Wife

Howdy Folks. How do you do? It's about time for me to hit the hay but I thought I'd say a quick hello. Nothing interesting has been happening in my life these days. I come home, sit on the sofa and watch TV. I may enhance my evening by having a glass (or 2) of wine. That's about as exciting as it gets. Scott's in his relay at work so I'm the lonely wife. OVER IT. I've said it many times on this blog before, I always have my moment where I'm totally tired of it and I reach my boiling point. I always call Mom and Dad crying. It happened today. There's always a day--today was it. Scott did make a good point though. He said 'at least it makes you sad.' Quite true. I may potentially be worried if it made me happy that I never saw my husband. I just get lonely. Plain and simple. I'm thinking about driving to LR tomorrow to spend some time with my family so that I can have company. I know New Years is this weekend but do you think that matters in the Johnson household? Not a bit. My Dad told me that just today he told my mom 'Scott is one driven individual.' You do gotta respect the guy. He works his butt off. And provides me a nonstressful/carefree life. Other than the lonely periods of course. Whadya do? It's the life I've chosen. I knew when I started dating him he was very career driven. And that's one of the things I love the most about him. It's very sexy ;)
Anywho wah wah. Cry baby. I think whenever Scott and I make the decision to have children it'll be much better. I'll have a little nuget to keep me company and consume my time. I'm totally the momma/housewife type. It's all I've wanted to be my whole life. I'll be good to go. It won't be for at least 2 years so stop asking people!! We have to have a newly built (by the father-in-law...yay that's his career...discount holla) bigger home. Our house is so teeny. We'd have to replace the wine fridge for a high chair. Which obviously disturbs me. Which obviously means it's not time. But I do look forward to the time that it is time for that time! (confuse ya just now?)
Bed time. Nighty night

Christmas Decorations

My parent's house is always so pretty during Christmas time. I thought I'd share some of the decorations!

This is the main tree in the living room. Notice the soldiers which I love. And the cozy fire! Ahhh...
This is the colorful Christmas tree in the library. All of the ornaments are glass ornaments that we've collected over the years.

This is the snow tree in the kitchen. I didn't take a full length photo for some reason. It's very winter wonderland dressed with only snowflakes and snowmen. I love it!

Christmas 2010

So how was everybody's Christmas? Mine was so wonderful! It was a two day event. We did our usual tradition. Christmas Eve with Scott's family, Christmas Day with mine. We started early Christmas Eve morning. I cooked Scott and I a special little breakfast then we got dressed and headed to his Mom and Steve's house for lunch. Steve's daughters were there and I always enjoy visiting with them. They don't live here so we don't get to see them often. After a yummy lunch, we went to the Christmas service at church. Immediately after we ran home quickly to pick up Holly and headed to Scott's, Dad's house. A lovely visit, meal, and exchanging of gifts later we drove to Little Rock.

We woke up Christmas day to a fabulous breakfast prepared by my Mom. We ate at the breakfast table while listening to Christmas music! We watched Holly open her presents then we all got dressed for the day. (we asked Holly to pose with her new toys by the tree and she wouldn't leave that spot for a good 10 minutes looking just like the above pic. It was funny)

After we got dressed, we all were in the kitchen helping prepare the meal. I always love that! I made our secret family recipe traditional Christmas yummieness--homemade noodles. It's quite the process and only Grammy and I know how to make them.

It's not really a secret recipe--i'll share--it's just a touch hard to make. You start with simply flour and eggs.
Slowly but surly, those eggs and flour turn into homemade dough!

Then, you roll the dough out so thin you can almost see through it. The thinner the better. Cut the dough into strips, drop them in boiling chicken broth and about 2 minutes later, you've got homemade noodles! They've been in my family for years and we never have a special holiday meal without them. I gotta admit, they're tricky to make and I'm proud that I know how to do it! Even if it is incredibly time consuming...
After we prepared our meal and were waiting on it to cook, we all opened our presents! I was thrilled to pieces when Scott and I got our own of this....
Needless to say, I've been playing with my new toy all day, every day, since. I love! I also got some cute clothes from Anthropologie and LOFT, a mini video camera, some Razorback gear, pajamas, and some other things I can't think of right now....whoops.
Later that evening Mom and I went to see Black Swan while Scott and Dad watched The Tourist. It was more of a chick flick than they were anticipating!
That's about it. It was a great weekend. Christmas seemed to fly by since it was on a Saturday and everyone was back to the normal routine on Monday. Now it's time for me to deal with Christmas decorations. UGH.

It was a good one! For now I'll just show you this.... (hehe I just said to Scott "this is so feeakin awesooooooome!!!!!! In reference to my iPad)
Enjoy this video my Dad made. It's only about 45 seconds and it's totally awesome (word of the night?)

Doodlebug

Good morning! I'm about to head to work but thought I'd do a little blogging first. I've been quite the lovely wife today because I made my hubby an amazingly delicious breakfast. Not that it was hard at all but it seemed fancy. I did one of those Jimmy Dean (made by Sara Lee of course) breakfast scrambles. If you've never done it before you're missing out. You can find them in the frozen section. YUM-O.
I think the doodlebug has a bladder infection--again--so today is the beginning of a 14 day antibiotic. I hope it works. Poor little girl. She's just falling apart! Dr. Bob actually called me yesterday to talk to me about her. You can tell he's really concerned for her well being and I love that about him. She's not just a dog. He realizes how important she is to us. The reason I think she has a bladder infection is because she keeps having accidents in the house. Which, I told Dr. Bob, I think is her way of telling me 'hey Kara, I'm hurting' and he completely agreed. He said dog's do that. So hopefully this makes my little girl feel better.
Okay well, ugh. I guess I have to go to work now. Don't you think that everyone should have the week of Christmas off from work? I surly do. And probably the week after Christmas too. It would just make the world a happier place. I truly believe that.

Kathryn's Wedding

Hello, hello! I'm back home after spending a great weekend in Little Rock. Kathryn's wedding was beautiful!!!!! She used a lot of the same people I did so that made it fun for me. I especially enjoyed getting to visit with my band, The Rocketts. They're such a great band. I highly recommend. My 86 year old Mimi was there. She cracks us up a lot with the funny things she says. She's kinda losing it big time just a touch. While it's sad we just have to make the best out of it and laugh at her 'moment's' instead of let it get us down. So my Uncle Rex's wife, MargeAnna, was sitting with Mimi during the ceremony. MargeAnna said to her 'okay now I've got us some tissues because we may tear up when Rex is walking Kathryn down the isle.' and Mimi said 'oh honey I don't know them as well as you do I'll be fine.' HAHA. Priceless. MargeAnna also pointed out the 'in memory of Wallace Luttrell' on the program and Mimi said 'oh he'll just love that I can't wait to show him.' Oh Mimi....
I could do an entire post on her funnies. Maybe I will one day. She grabbed Dad's wine at the reception and gulped it down not realizing what she was drinking. So Uncle Rex said 'Mom do you want me to get you some wine?' and she said 'oh no! I better not.' LOL. She's funny.
Today we went to a brunch at the Clinton Library for the happy couple and it was SO NICE. My Aunt Gayle's family threw it and I told Scott it was totally comparable to some people's weddings! Live Jazz band, open bar (at 11am) gorgeous flowers, beautiful table settings, amazing food. Yum-O. They're all from Louisiana so it was a very cajun/New Orleans feel and I LOVED. Kathryn and Spencer are headed to St. Lucia for 10 days! Jeal. They wanted so badly to stay at Jade Mountain but Jade is actually closed this week so they couldn't stay there. Scott and I gave them a little St. Lucia advice. I know they're going to be in paradise as St. Lucia is my favorite island I've visited so far. Congrats to my sweetheart of a cousin and her new hubby!!

Alrighty, guess I'm gonna find something good on TV while I snuggle with the doodlebug.

Insomnia

My sleep schedule is all messed up you guys. It's entirely too frustrating. I've been hitting the sack past midnight for nearly 2 weeks in a row now. I've just had SO MUCH to do. So last night, the exhaustion caught up with me and I literally climbed in bed at 7:45 and immediately fell asleep. Big mistake. I woke up wide awake at 10 pm. I figured I would wake up super early but I was hoping it would be more like 5 am. Needless to say, I was wide awake until 3 which caused me to think too much and then my mind wouldn't let me go to sleep. Frustrating!!
Part of the reason I've been staying up so late is because Scott's been working well past midnight. And I just really can't fall asleep until he's in bed. Well, he actually finished with work at 10 last night so we decided to watch a movie together--State of Play. Super good. I had never even heard of it before but it was on our Demand so we went for it and we liked it.
I would love nothing more than to just hang at my house today, take a nap, do a little Christmas shopping and a little grocery shopping too, hit the gym and work on my 6 miles then come home and cook a yummy meal. I've got lots of lettuce in the fridge I need to use before it goes bad. But no, I've got that thing called a job that I have to go to. Darn job. Holly just had a bath last night and she's so soft and snuggly....she's makes such a great napping partner when she's all smell good. Oh well....
Anyone wanna prescribe me an ambien?

Productive Rockstar

Yesterday I was a rockstar. I woke up with a burst of energy just exploding to get anything and everything done. I love those days as they are few and far between. I started by making a yummy soup for lunch. Then, I dusted and cleaned the kitchen sink. Then, I had to run some t-shirts to Shiloh for Image One. After that I did a little Christmas shopping for the folks. Followed by Target for gift wrapping options. (since when did wrapping paper and bows cost a small fortune?) Since I was in Fayetteville, a pop in Masons was a necessity. I saw many things I liked but was a good girl and purchased nothing. I did a little Sams run to stock up on some vino. Then I headed back up to Bentonville but made a pit stop at Fuse for a little 3 mile run on the treadmill. (trying to work my way back up to 6 miles again) After Fuse I went to Walmart, came home, cooked a yummy meal, then continued my cleaning. I cleaned EVERYTHING. Well, okay not the ceiling fans but everything else. My house sparkles and I LOVE that. 2 hours later, I worked on Christmas projects followed by bedtime. See. Productive.
Today, I've been slightly productive. I have a Christmas project that I'm working on for the rents. It's quite time consuming. Obviously I cannot reveal my present but I totally will share the day after Christmas.
Ooookay. I guess I need to get off here and continue with the productiveness. Have a good one fellow readers.

Puppies

State football went great. FREEZING but great. My day started out fab because I went to Fellowship Little Rock. Dang yall, Kim can siiiiiing. Goosebumps all over. Normally I'm that girl at church who sings so loudly I probably annoy the people around me. Not at Fellowship. I'm nearly mute because I just want to hear her. She works for my parents now and after church was over Kyle said he went up to her and said 'Dang girl you're gonna have to start singing around the office.' If you've never heard her, you're truly missing out on one of the greatest pleasures in life. She's AHHmazing.
They sang Christmas songs at church today which inspired me to make a Christmas playlist on my iphone. I'm not gonna lie I'm pretty proud of it. I kinda want to make copies so all of my friends and family can enjoy it. I listed to it the whole way back home today and LOVED.
Speaking of coming home, I had to get gas so I stopped at my favorite exit--Atkins--to fill up. As I'm getting my gas this truck pulls up beside me with, ready for it, a momma, daddy, and 4 baby shih tzu puppies IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. I immediately marched myself over there to tell the (WT) people that it was entirely too cold for the dogs to be in the back of the truck since it's 24 degrees outside not including the wind chill. 'Aw they fine' they said. 'Umm...no!' I replied. 'They're shaking.' UGH I wanted to freak out on them. I kept saying over and over 'it's too cold for them to be riding back there.' They didn't care. Then they preceded to try to sell them to me. Mom, Dad, and babies who, by the way, were ADORABLE...all for sell. I totally would take them but Holly would get very sad if a new dog came around. She would feel like she's being replaced. So I'm out. So I call my father-in-law, who has expressed interest in getting a shih tzu, and sprung the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas on him. He said he'd love to but no. Meanwhile, my dog is curiously starring out the window, whilst wearing her sweater as it's freaking cold outside. It killed me. I prayed that God would just wrap a blanket around the little guys while they were so cruelly being toted around in the back of a truck in the dead of winter by abusive people who only saw them with dollar signs in their eyes. It wasn't until I had already gotten back on the interstate that it dawned on me I should have bought them all and found them great homes. Then that made me feel even more sad/guilty that the thought hadn't occurred earlier. Hopefully, the cuties will get amazing homes and far away from those people.
Sorry to depress you. I cried if it makes you feel better. Alright, time to snuggle with my little girl who, I kept telling her the rest of the ride up, is a very lucky, spoiled, and loved puppy. As they all should be.

My Little Rock Home

Hello from Little Rock! I drove down for the weekend to help work the football state championship high school games at war memorial. Good thing I have a warm ski coat and thick socks cause it's gonna be cooooold. Scott stayed in Bentonville because he's in his really busy time at work. I think he's a little glad I'm in Little Rock this weekend because he says he always feels so guilty working until midnight while I'm sitting at home twiddling my thumbs. Hopefully he'll be able to get a lot done this weekend.
I'm really looking forward to Barbara Walters Fascinating People Special tonight. I watch it every year.
Did anyone see Oprah today? Mom and I just finished watching it. Horrifying. I cannot imagine how that man has managed to keep himself alive. I'm going to pray for him tonight. In case you aren't aware what was on Oprah today then you should go to her website and watch the episode. I'm sure it's online.
Ummm.....that's about all I've got for ya. Sorry! Its nearly time for dinner anyways. A yummy home cooked meal from Chef Mom. Nothing beats it!

Holly Shout Out!

Mom and I picture text every day. Usually a cute text from the doodlebug saying hi. I got this one from her today as she was waiting for a treat at the bank (which they neglected to give her...the nerve). Enjoy this post from Holly.....

Brr...it's cold outside. I honestly like wearing my sweaters because it keeps me warm! I'm very cold natured. Mr. Bank Teller please give me a treat. I live for them....

There's nothing I love more than snuggling! Add a blanket in the mix and I am in pure heaven! I LOVE blankets.

I also love my new 'Queen sized' bed my Momma just bought me. I hardly ever want to get out of it because it's so comfy and I can stretch out if I want. Way better than the twin bed I used to have. In case you don't know, taking naps is one of my favorite past times...

This is the meal Kara made for Scott tonight. Doesn't it look yummy. Wish I was at their house tonight because I know they would have shared a bite with me.

Love, Holly

10 for tuesday

*I need a vacation
*I'm turning into an insomniac
*I would love to take a nap right now
*I just found out estate tax is 35% which I find rude
*I find taxes rude in general. I hate seeing how much gets taken out of my check
*I miss my doodlebug. Can't wait to see her this weekend
*Changing lightbulbs scare me. I'm always scared I'll squeeze too tight and it'll bust in my hand
*Birds and fish scare me too
*My house is cold
*I need a vacation.

Snooze & Stock

Howdy. How's this Monday treating you? I have been quite productive today. My husband woke me up around 7:15 by hitting his snooze button a good 4 times. I was officially over the idea I may fall back asleep so I made a point to let him know he woke me up by turning the TV on to Good Morning America. He gave my arm a little good morning squeeze to which I looked over with a glare (a cute one, not a mean one). He laughed, then apologized.
To give him credit, he has gotten better about hitting the snooze we just went to bed really late last night. I protested about 2 months ago with the snooze button by sleeping in the other bedroom until he promised to set his alarm for the absolute last minute he could to get ready in time. I think I made my point. It wasn't an argument, I was just like 'until you stop hitting that stupid snooze button I'm not sleeping in the same bedroom with you.' It pretty much worked. I gotta admit though I kinda loved that week of having my own bed. I've never been able to sleep with someone in the bed with me. I CAN'T WAIT to get a king sized bed. It will make me an overall happier person.
So since I woke up so early....on my day off....I woke up, made oatmeal with blueberries, wrote my Life blog, ripped the sheets off the bed & washed them, headed to the gym--rode the elliptical for 45 while watching Regis and Kelly. Went to Walmart, STOCKED my pantry and fridge (I almost want to take a picture to show you. I love when I have a stocked pantry and fridge) Got gas, deposited 2 checks in the bank, went to the Bentonville Butcher Deli, Dusted my furniture, made an amazing lunch for myself and Scott--a salad medley--pasta salad, chicken salad, salad salad, with homemade ranch dressing (naughty girl) and washed some towels-----all before noon. Since noon, I've written many drafts for my Life Gift-giving (love getting ahead) and now it's 2:00 and probably time for me to shower. I know--it's gross that I haven't done that yet but once I start blogging for Life there's no stopping me.
Alrighty seriously I'm craving a shower. AND I'm getting together with the girls tonight at Pesto. Love girls night! Happy Monday.....

Go Cats!

What up! My buds Braclyn just left the Johnson house after a lovely low key night. Yummy take-n-bake is what this suzzie homemaker made for din. Along with 3 bottles of wine. Yikes!

So....Once a Wildcat always a Wildcat right? I'm so proud for El Dorado right now! I just found out via facebook they won the state championship football tonight and I'm totally thrilled! Super bummed it didn't happen when we went to state my junior year but whatcha gonna do? How's this for, as Scott would say, innerestin....they played Bentonville that year. Which happens to be the place I call home now. AND....the Bentonville Tigers won Friday night....then the Wildcats won tonight. Die! Love! Even though I'm sure I'll always live here in Walmart World, I'll always hold a special little place for the Cats in my heart!

Scott just read this post and said "that's embarassing."(referring to the photos) Nu Uh! I totally rocked the Moo Moo!!!!!! Only Torri, Squid, Rosamond, and Mahurin (my former cheer buds I know for sure read this blog) would get that. I totally loved the Moo Moo. Holla!

I'm Ryan Mallett

CB Here We Come!

Allllrighty. We're going to Crested Butte! It's official. Our trip is getting booked today. 7 days and 6 nights in snow village heaven! I'm totally excited about it. I think I secretly, deep down wanted to go skiing just because it's different. Scott's kinda excited. Haha. No actually he's really excited but so worried about skiing. He doesn't understand how easy it is. He thinks I'm just saying that to ease his mind. I just LOVE skiing and would love to squeeze in a yearly trip of it. Maybe Scott will feel the same after he goes!
We're leaving January 23 and the flight is great. We leave here at 8 am and get into CB at 11 am. Such a nice change from those 5 am Caribbean flights. I think the first day we're going to go to the little grocery store and stock up our little kitchen we have. Maybe after grocery shopping we can squeeze in a half a day of skiing. I don't see why not! The next day is our anniversary and I love that we'll wake up in snow village heaven! (that's what I keep calling it)
I'm so looking forward to this trip! I'm totally going to record Scott's first attempt off the ski lift and then down the ski trail. Hehe! Can't wait ya'll!!!!!

4 Years Ago Today....

Four years ago today, I went on a date with my husband for the first time! Theos for dinner. 100 feet of snow randomly visiting Fayetteville that evening. No kisses...not my style for a first date! But a lovely evening. I knew I would be dating the boy for a while after that date was over....then about 4 days later (after being completely inseperable) I realized I was going to marry him. I still remember that feeling and it actually brought me to tears. Love my guy!!! He's my everything.

Thanksgiving Wrap-Up

Howdie folks! How was your Thanksgiving break? Mine could not have been better. Scott and I were in Little Rock for 5 whole nights. Allow me to give you a short little breakdown.

We got there late Tuesday night. On Wednesday I spent the afternoon Thanksgiving grocery shopping with Mom and Scott. Later that evening we went to my brothers house where Landon was playing with his friend, Avery, and her sister, Riley.

Landon said Avery missed him.

Thanksgiving day was great! I watched the Macy's parade like I love to do every year. Mom's family came over to our house and we stuffed ourselves silly. After Landon, Holly, and I took a little cat nap, the whole family watched a movie

The next day we had Thanksgiving with my Dad's side of the family at my Uncle Rex's house. The rest of the day was filled with college football.

However, Landon wanted something 'more kid friendly' to do so I took him ice skating at the Rivermarket. We had a great day just the two of us. I hadn't gone ice skating in probably15 years and needless to say, I'm officially an old lady because it hurt my already weak ankles.

After we finished our hour of ice skating, we went to Starbucks to get something 'to warm us up!'

Finally Saturday rolled around! The day we all couldn't wait to arrive. We woke up, got dressed, and headed to War Memorial to get our tailgate on!
Kirk teaching Landon how to do the Cupid Shuffle. He loves Kirk!!

Landon loved Kirk's chili!

My tailgate buddies!

All in all, it was a perfect Thanksgiving holiday! Loved getting to see my little buddy and spend time with him and my entire family.

Landon & The Blue Tree

I'm on my way back to work from a yummy lunch at McAlisters and give my Mom a call. I ask her what she's up to and she said she, Kyle, and Landon were off to get Kyle a new Christmas tree. 'Have fun' I tell them, then hang up.

About 20 minutes later I get a picture text from Mom
The text says that Landon has found the tree HE wants.....and he want's it REAL bad.

Then I get this picture of a teary, red eyed Landon. Mom says 'he's crying now. He wants the blue tree really, really, really bad.'
'Get the child the blue tree then' I say! 'Let him pick out the ornaments that he wants too.'
......So they did. And I think it's pretty clear that the little guy is very happy now.

Help Me Decide!!!

Okay. 2nd post today. We've FINALLY narrowed it down. Ready? We've got 2 options. Cabo and Crested Butte.
So here's the deal. I'm going to have you guys vote on it. Now I'm not necessarily saying the vote is going to decide what I'm gonna do but I most definitely want to hear your opinion. I'm going to give you pro's and con's for each destination and I want you to pick. Both are similar price points. Cabo is great location--close to Cabo nightlife. Crested Butte is ski in, ski out. Now don't pick as if it's you going....pick like you're me. Keep all Pro's and Con's in mind. What do you think Scott and I should do?

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort and Spa, Cabo

Pros
1.) Beach = relaxation, tan, unlimited drinks & food (all-inclusive)
2.) Never been to Cabo--always wanted to go
3.) Nice to get away from the cold in NWA to warm Cabo
4.) Beautiful resort, new, adults only, smaller than what we've been to, romantic
5.) Good price of resort allows extras like: massage, snorkeling, etc.
Cons
1.) Been to all-inclusive beach twice this year--Mexico & Dominican Republic
2.) Not really that different feeling I was looking for
3.) Can't get in the ocean in Cabo
Elevation Hotel and Spa, Crested Butte, CO

Pros
1.) That different 'feeling' I've been wanting...not the beach
2.) Cozy, fun, romantic, casual, picturesque
3.) Laid back, hang by the fire, snuggle & watch a movie at night, kitchen if we want to cook chili & hang
4.) Very appropriate January vaca & quick flight
5.) Scott's never been skiing...

Cons
1.) Scott's never been skiing...what if he doesn't like it
2.) Not all-inclusive
3.) Cold weather to cold weather
So what do you think? Give me your opinion. I average around 130 readers a day so I expect ALL of you to vote. Don't worry.....it's anonymous. Help a sista out!
